"Penguins"

"Penguins" Penguins are flightless seabirds that live almost exclusively below the equator. These flightless animals live on the Antarctic ice and in the frigid surrounding waters.Emperor penguins spend their entire lives on Antarctic ice and in its waters. A thick layer of blubber and tightly-packed, oily feathers are ideal for colder temperatures. The 18 different species of penguins can widely in shape and size but all have black bodies and white bellies. This protective countershading allows them to hide from predators like leopard seals and orcas while they swim. While penguins can’t fly, their stiff flippers, webbed feet, and sleek shape make them expert swimmers. In fact, they spend most of their lives in the ocean and do nearly all of their hunting for krill, squid, and crabs underwater. They can swim about 15 miles an hour, and when they want to go faster, they often porpoise, or leap out of the water as they swim. Common name of penguin is Emperor Penguin & scientific name is Aptenodytes forsteri it is a type of Birds .Penguin diet are Carnivore.Their grup name Colony Average life span in the wild 15 to 20 years their size 45 inches & Weight Up to 88pounds. Fishes, Silverfish, lantern fish, sprats, pilchards, mullets, anchovies, sardines, cod, opal fish, and other small fish are the majority of most penguins' diets. They are also starving from more than one month without food. Penguins are only found in the Southern Hemisphere. The greatest concentrations are on Antarctic coasts and sub-Antarctic islands. There are 18 species of penguins, 5 of which live in Antarctica. Another 4 species live on sub-Antarctic islands. Adult male penguins are called cocks, females are hens & a group of penguins in the water is called a raft but on land they're called a waddle! Penguins eat a range of fish and other sealife that they catch underwater. Penguins can drink sea water. Penguins spend around half their time in water and the other half on land. The Emperor Penguin is the tallest of all penguin species, reaching as tall as 120 cm (47 in) in height. Penguins fall in love and choose a lifelong mate, sort of like marriage. If things don't work out, they get a “penguin divorce” and separate from each other, seeking a new lifetime partner in romance. These flightless birds breed in the winter. After a courtrship of several weeks, a female emperor penguin will lay one egg then leaves! then go off into the ocean to hunt for food. The male emperor penguin will stay behind and warm the egg. The male penguin will balance the egg between his feet for about two months. This means the male will not leave the egg to go eat -- otherwise, the egg could freeze on the ice. This is why the male penguin eats so much before the egg is laid. If the chick hatches before the female penguin returns, the male will not leave the chick unattended. The male emperor penguin will produce a curd-like substance from his esophagus to feed the chick. Male emperor penguins have this unique skill, unlike other penguins. Once the female returns from hunting, she will watch the chick, allowing the male to go hunt. After both parents are well-fed, they will take turns taking care of the chick while the other hunts. So while a man standing barefoot on ice would quickly get frostbitten, penguins can do so all their lives with no damage at all.So do penguins bite? Yes penguins can and do bite. Like other birds, penguins don't have teeth. Instead, they have backward-facing fleshy spines that line the inside of their mouths These help them guide their fishy meals down their throat. In many cases they have a very long beak, with the emperor penguin possessing a beak 8cm in length. A penguins beak also has a hook on the end of it which can easily pierce a person's skin. Penguins communicate by vocalizing and performing physical behaviors called displays Penguins are expert divers! Gentoo Penguins are the fastest of all penguin species! These penguins can swim at speeds of up to 36km/h! Emperor penguins can hold their breath for an amazing 20 minutes! They dive under the ice in the cold oceans around Antarctica when they hunt for food. Most male Emperor penguins fast for 115 days—but a few of them may sneak snacks. Most of the time they walk with a speed of about 1 or 2 km per hour, but in danger a frightened penguin can run a lot faster than a human being over snowy rocks and ice. They're super friendly with people. Penguins' main predators (seals, sea lions, whales, and sharks) all reside in the water, so these birds feel much safer on land around researchers and tourists.
